8th Grade Science
In eighth grade we learning about natural selection and change overtime. Students are learning phylogenetics or the idea that even with all the diversity among the living things found on either; living things are all still related. We have started using cladograms, diagrams that show the relationship between different living things based on inherited features or traits. The week of January 14th eighth graders will using and creating clograms to show relationships and will have a quiz over phylogenetics and cladograms on Friday, January 18th.
7th Grade Science
In seventh we are continuing our study of the physical sciences. We have finishedour unit on chemical reactions and now beginning to look at physical changes and how matter changes its physical features and phases. Our main focus is identifying that in a physical change matter may change its appearance, like size or shape, but chemically remains the same. An example is water going from solid ice to liquid water. While we work through the physical changes of matter students will learn how the transfer of energy, often heat, is the catalyst for these changes of phase.
